Why pay with Ethereum
Ethereum is the second-most-accepted cryptocurrency in hosting after Bitcoin, and the rail of choice for customers who already hold ETH from DeFi, NFT, or staking activity. We accept on-chain ETH on Ethereum mainnet via BTCPay, with a fresh receiving address per invoice and direct settlement to cold storage on a daily cadence.
Ethereum is fully transparent. Every transaction is public, balances are queryable, and chain-analysis tooling for Ethereum is more mature than for Bitcoin. For customers whose threat model includes financial surveillance, ETH is not the right rail — Lightning or Monero offer materially better privacy. For customers whose threat model is straightforward — they want a hosting bill paid in crypto without converting to BTC first — ETH works fine.
Fees track gas conditions and have improved substantially since the post-merge era and Dencun upgrade. A typical ETH payment costs $1–8 in gas during normal network conditions, with rare spikes to $20+ during high-activity periods. Confirmation times are roughly 3 minutes for the 12 confirmations we require ($500+) or about 30 seconds for 2 confirmations on smaller invoices. Layer-2 rollups (Arbitrum, Optimism, Base) are not currently supported — we accept ETH on mainnet only.
- Native ETH acceptance on Ethereum mainnet
- Self-hosted BTCPay integration — no Coinbase Commerce or BitPay
- Per-invoice receiving address, never reused
- Refunds within 7 days paid in ETH
- Direct settlement for customers already holding ETH from DeFi or staking
